ABOUT

I have been designing creative marketing materials of one kind or another professionally for over 20 years. Currently, I’m the graphic designer for the Office of Marketing and Communications at the James Madison University (JMU) College of Business—the university’s largest college with nearly 4,600 undergraduate and graduate students in 2023. Plying my trade in the higher education arena has been a dream come true.

Before joining JMU, I drove concept, design, and delivery of print and digital creative materials for global and domestic markets at Rosetta Stone for 13 years. As a senior graphic designer, I specialized in B2B marketing for education and enterprise.

Previous roles include serving as art director for a regional promotional products company and as a product designer for a high-end giftware company, creating items such as Christmas ornaments, etched glassware, and fine china.

I pride myself in being able to listen to clients to understand their end goals and audiences first. Then I get to work communicating that goal visually, producing deliverables that are on brand, on message, and crafted meticulously. I’m mission-oriented and seek to promote the long-term success and brand of the organizations I serve.

With such extensive design experience, I’m very comfortable collaborating with multi-disciplinary marketing teams, vendors, and stakeholders across a variety of creative asset types. I’m able to use and adapt to the ever-changing standard design tools, systems, and platforms. A recent supervisor commented, “Darin's work ethic and ’yes-and‘ approach to design is an inspiration to anyone who has the pleasure of working with him.”

My wife and I live in Bridgewater, Virginia—a thriving small town just south of Harrisonburg in the Shenandoah Valley—with our two teenage sons and two cats.
